General Notary
What does a notary public do?
A notary public serves as an impartial witness to the signing of documents, verifies the identity of the signer, and completes the required notarial certificate. A notary does not provide legal advice or determine whether a document is appropriate for your situation.
What types of documents can you notarize?
We notarize a variety of eligible documents, including powers of attorney, affidavits, acknowledgments, jurats, business documents, estate-planning documents, and other documents requiring notarization.
What do I need to bring to a notarization?
You will generally need the document requiring notarization and a valid, acceptable form of government-issued identification. The exact requirements can vary depending on the type of notarization.
Do I need to sign my document before meeting with the notary?
Not always. Some documents must be signed in the notary’s presence. Please wait to sign until you know whether your document requires you to sign during the notarization.
What is Remote Online Notarization (RON)?
RON allows eligible documents to be notarized remotely using a secure audio-video technology platform. You can meet with the notary online without being physically present in the same location.
Can I use a Nevada remote online notary if I live in another state?
A Nevada electronic notary can perform authorized remote notarizations for eligible signers located outside Nevada, subject to applicable requirements.
Can I be outside the United States?
International signers may be eligible for certain Nevada remote online notarizations when the applicable legal requirements are met. The document or transaction must have the required connection to the United States, and other requirements may apply.
What do I need for a remote online notarization?
You generally need a reliable internet connection, a computer or compatible mobile device with a camera and microphone, an acceptable form of identification, and the document requiring notarization.

Processing times vary depending on the type of document, issuing authority, destination country, and whether expedited service is available.
Important Questions
Can a notary prepare my legal document for me?
A notary cannot provide legal advice or draft legal documents unless separately authorized to do so in another professional capacity. You should consult a qualified attorney for legal advice or document preparation.
Can a notary tell me which document I should sign?
A notary can explain the notarial process but generally cannot advise you about which document to use or what the document means. Questions about the legal effect of a document should be directed to an attorney or the person who prepared the document.
